Best Birds

Hello everyone!

I appreciate your patience in the lack of postings and sharing over the past couple of weeks, and it will still be sporadic for a little while longer. I am happy to say that I have a card to show you today, however. Saturday we had our Seashore Stampers meeting and I had to quickly come up with a make & take. Since my creative juices are not flowing too well since Mom's passing, I cased this card by  Cindy Lee - https://cindyleebeedesigns.com/2016/06/27/su-best-birds and water coloured, rather than just stamping, the images with the Aqua Painter.

I love the colours that Cindy chose (Calypso Coral, Soft Suede, & Soft Sky). In the close up below, you can see that after I water coloured the bird, the originally stamped bird was washed out a bit, so I re-stamped the bird after and it didn't quite line up properly. Perhaps I should have used water colour paper for the bird...

The side view below shows how I layered everything.

On the inside, I water coloured a partial stamping of the bird and branch.

I love this bundle (see below) and will soon be making more cards to share with you, using the set. In the mean time, happy stamping everyone!

Helping Me Grow - Tall & Skinny

I have said before that I love this size of card, whether it is tall & skinny, or short & long. In thinking about a card design for today, I chose this size and to go mostly white. You can tell that I played with the length of the stems for the flowers in the back.

In order to do that, I stamped the foreground set of flowers first on a 1 7/8"w x 8"h strip, and matted on a 2"w x 8 1/8"h piece of white. I then stamped the full bloom onto the edge of a Pot-It note to be sure to get the sticky backing and then cut it out. Placing it over the stamped flower, I then stamped the top portion of the flowers behind it and then the stems stamped the fullest length I could get, without too much of the top curvature of the stems and lining them up the best I could, below that same flower. I also stamped onto scraps the blossoms and buds again.

After creating the background with the Timeless Textures, I used my Aqua Painters to colour in the stems and flowers on the background and the second set of flowers, cutting them out afterward.

In the photo below you can see the flowers and buds are popped up with dimensionals.

I forgot to complete the inside of the card, but should you case this card, I'm sure you will know how to do that yourself. The product used in the making of this card is found below.

Thank you for having a look today, and I hope that you are inspired to create a card in this size (4"w x 9 1/4"h) or to play with the length of your own flower stamp stem lengths.

Happy Stamping!

Water Colouring & Water Colour Stamping Using an Old Favorite - Butterfly Basics

Whoops, I thought I scheduled this post for yesterday.

Hello everyone! Looks like today is going to be an absolutely beautiful day again. I've been thinking for a while now that I should make multiples of my Thank You cards since I use so many. I was in the mood for water colouring and thought that might be too much for mass production, but went with the idea anyway. I was also feeling that I wanted to use a stamp set I haven't used in a while, my Butterfly Basics. I'm glad that it is still available in the new catalogue. So here are the dozen cards I made.

I love how the frame turned out. I used my paper trimmer to create them and stamped the sentiment from the new "Thoughtful Banners" stamp set in Tip Top Taupe. And rather than work with all the dimensionals for the frames, I used the new Foam Adhesive Strips that are available in the new catalogue. It raises the frame up higher than I would like, but it was so much easier to use.

For the water colour background I used Water Colour Paper, my Aqua Painters and Peekaboo Peach, Blushing Bride, and Tip Top Taupe using a lot of water to get that very light airy look. To stamp the water colour image, I used the same colours in the Stampin' Write Markers on a clear block, lightly misted with water, inked my stamp image on that, and then stamped on the water colour background.

I did the same for the butterflies and when dry punch them out and wrapped Linen Thread around the body of the butterfly before attaching it to the card.

You can see the layering in this next photo.

I love how these turned out, and want so very much to try this in another set of colours. Maybe another  time. Hope you are inspired to give this technique a shot. It is quite fun to do.

Happy stamping!
