87th Birthday Card For My Dad

It has been quite a while since I have posted anything on my Stampin' Up! blog. No I haven't signed up again as a Demonstrator, but I have finally had a chance to make something using my Stampin' Up! products. I have been keeping up with all that is new due to some good friends, but I had been busy teaching classes for Scrapbook Essentials BC for a while, and then I moved back to Alberta. Calgary to live with my daughter there for about 5 months, and then nearly a year ago we all moved to Lethbridge.

I am now making card kits for Scrapbook Parade in Victoria, and we mail things back and forth. If you wish to see what I design for the kits selling there, her is the link to my other blog, Aspiring to Creativity. If you go there, you can see the other two cards I made for my twin sisters. You see, my Dad and twin sisters all have their birthday on the same day! But since I used Stampin' Up! products for my Dad's card and not the others, I am only posting his on this blog.

I wanted to make an elegant masculine birthday card for my Dad, and I think I pulled it off.

You can see the layering in the above photo. If you remember me, I love layers!

I think this is one of my favourite tree stamps! And below's photo of the leaves...well I love them too. I only wish I had purchased the die set to go with the stamps. I never got around to it. So I had to cut them out with my fussy cutting scissors.

Well, that's it for this post. I hope that another two years doesn't pass before I post here again. I hope to use some Stampin' Up! products again. There are more family birthdays coming, so I hope I get the chance to use some of my favourites again.

Until then, Happy stamping and creating!

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Spice Votive Candle Gift Box

HAPPY (CANADIAN) THANKSGIVING DAY!

I am trying to come up with some Christmas Stocking Stuffer projects, and thought I could implement, as practise, for a tiny Thanksgiving gift for a friend. Since I was making this one for Thanksgiving, I remembered seeing a striking card and box set by Heike Fallwickl, and based my tiny box on hers. Mine is much smaller at 1 3/4w x 13/4xd 1 1/2h. Just large enough for the votive candle.

On the lid I have three die cut Vintage Leaves. I took some scrap watercolour paper, and inked them with Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Soft Suede, Crushed Curry & Delightful Dijon. I dried it with my heat tool, and then stamped the leaves, and die cut them.

You can see the candle inside the box here. Such a lovely smell, that Pumpkin Spice, when the lid is opened. Almost like cinnamon.

As I said earlier, I will have a Christmas version posted with some other stocking stuffer packaging. Do you want a Stocking Stuffer Packaging Class? Let me know. Or do you want instructions in my newsletter? If you are interested in my newsletter, let me know, and I will enter your name and email on the list (sabradcreations@gmail.com).

Hope that you are having a great day and that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving festivities and that you are stuffed, just like everyone else, lol.

Happy creating!

Who Says Leaves Have to Be Green...Yellow...Orange...Brown? Why Not Sweet Sugarplum?

Are you having fun browsing the new catalogue online! Bring your wish list/order with you to the Open House at my place on Saturday!

I am having a lot of fun playing with colour combinations to go with the new In-Colours! Today's card shows the new Sweet Sugarplum coordinated with Smokey Slate! I so love how these two colours compliment each other! This is a very easy card and Lovely CAS card layout to use. Great for creating multiple cards. I would have loved to make a dozen of this card as well, but alas, this was all the Sweet Sugarplum that I had left. Guess what's on my next shopping list?

I also felt a need to do something a little out of the ordinary. I was thinking this to myself as I was putting away some of my stamp sets, and my eyes fell to the Vintage Leaves stamp set. That's when I thought what I put for the tittle of this post. Why can't I make Sweet Sugarplum coloured leaves?

By adding just a touch of black, the colours sing. You can see what I did better in the close up photo below.

The side view shot below shows the layering of the card. Most of the leaf is adhered down onto the rectangle, while what hangs over it's edge is popped up.

I decided not to put white or vanilla on the inside to write on. I believe that either a regular blue or black pen will be seen nicely written on the Sweet Sugarplum cardstock.

I can hardly wait to use the Sweet Sugarplum cardstock again. Hope that you've been inspired with either the layout of this card or the colour combination. Thanks for stopping by today!

Happy stamping!
